One of the first things that needs to happen in this weekend’s "going off-the-grid fest" is to hook up the solar panels and controller to an old car battery. Car batteries are not the best thing for this but I have a couple of tools that need to be charged for the work we will be doing over the weekend, like a cordless drill. So I need to use what I have and worry about getting better stuff down the line.
My ham radio equipment runs on 12 volt so my communications will be ok. We have some fluorescent lights. These lights are 110 but I have an inverter or two. I already charge my mobile phone and wife’s tablet by a portable solar charger so we are good there.
If things go well I will try to pull The Manhut off the grid sometime Sunday.
