Victoria and religion

by Jim Morgan

As the Victoria was the titular head of the Church of England her opinions would have had weight.

We know from our earlier readings that she favoured the church government style of the Church of Scotland. The CoS was presbyterian in form with simple government and simple sevices.

The Church of Scotland also adhered to the interpretations of scripture by John Knox, who was very much what we today would call a Calvinist.

The Church of England was episcopal in structure and still very much a catholic organization.

At this time I have no knowledge of Victoria’s personal faith. It’ll be very interesting to do so digging on this subject.
