Really getting my geek on!

by Jim Morgan

So I have been scratching my itch to play ham radio but sometimes setting up radios can be an issue for me.

Lucky for me I have a shiny smartphone, constant internet connection and a neat app on the phone for Echolink.

Echolink is a program that hams use. It connects users to repeaters and users throughout the world by means of the internet.

That's right! It is VOIP for hams.

Tonight I checked into a net on Echolink called the HamTwitNet. It is hosted on an Echolink repeater in North Texas with the callsign W5RAW.

The HamTwitNet is a collection of hams who meet and chat on Twitter and have this weekly net.

I enjoyed it. I had to leave early but I plan to return again.
